I had an interesting talk with a friend the other day about “sales.” We were discussing the negative impressions that come to mind when you imagine the slick car salesman or pushy door-to-door guy. My friend pointed out that overcoming that stereotype was key in terms of providing real service to customers. Good sales is simply looking out for your client’s best interest and providing the best solutions to their needs.
In providing the best voiceover services here at Tanglewood, it’s been important to allow clients a relatively quick way to preview talent. Since every talent is unique and brings a special “bag of tricks,” it seemed important to try to narrow the selection process for clients.
So we tried to consider the basics – Male or Female? Are we looking for a convincing spokesperson for a thirty-second commercial, a more drawn out description or explanation which requires some long-form story telling, or an actor who can take us beyond the obvious to a something a bit more “over the edge?”
And so, we developed those basic sub-groups – Male, Female, Commercial, Narrative, and Character – to offer a quick look into the dozens of talent demos available. By narrowing the field just a bit, we allow customers to concentrate on the kind of voice they are looking for. Add to that our willingness to offer casting suggestions (and auditions when necessary) and it’s no wonder why clients over the years have chosen Tanglewood as the solution to their voiceover needs.
